October 22, 2006 -- NCIC Operator Services is pleased to announce the completion of a new website for the Pay phone and telecommunications industry titled "The Pay phone Network" (http://www.payphonenetwork.com)

A brief glance at the pay phone industry shows that over half of the pay phones have been removed since 1999.     The proliferation of cellular phones and prepaid calling cards have decreased the revenue from pay phones to the point that pay phone providers often need to charge a fee to place pay phones. Currently, there are only about 1.5 Million pay phones left in the US and that number continues to decline each year. The importance for pay phones in emergency situations in evidenced almost every year during disasters, such as the terrorist attacks on 9-11, Hurricane Katrina and earthquakes in Hawaii and our West Coast.     Most pay phones continue to operate during power outages because they are powered by the local phone company's central office switches running on generator power. This convenience can be life saving during these disasters.

Pay phones continue to be the main source of communications for the homeless and poor. Additionally, they are available for emergency use for people without cellphones, in areas without cellphone coverage and for 911 calls.

The PayphoneNetwork.com website was introduced to help stimulate the pay phone industry, by helping business and government entities to easily find pay phone services for their locations.     The Pay phone Network promptly passes on all pay phone inquiries, at no cost, to either pay phone providers or the industry associations in order to quickly handle requests for new services or provide positive media exposure for the pay telephone industry.
